Business Re-Opened in 2004A recent positive addition to the Norwich and surrounding areas is the reopening of a professional photography studio. The studio provides cutting-edge technology with professional photography to provide customer appreciated products and services.Studio HistoryProfessional photographer James Metz began studio operations again in June of 2004 after successfully completing his 33-year teaching career. Mr. Metz’s prior experiences included 10 years of photography studio operation in the 1980’s while located in the Norwich Masonic Temple building. The reopened studio is located in the Norwich Center on West Main Street across from the Guernsey Library; the same building as the Chenango Council of the Arts.Technological ChangesMr. Metz explained how his professional photography business has changed with the technological advances of digital imaging. Years ago when film was used, the processing of film and the printing of previews, along with the specialization of negative retouching and outside custom lab printing, added to the turn-around time of a customer’s order. Today, with digital images and digital applications, customers can view and choose images during their portrait session. Then with retouching, print enhancement and processing done “in-house” at the studio, shorter production time is available and rush service is possible.
SpecialtiesAs in prior years, the studio specializes in portraits. Portraits of high school seniors for their yearbook and personal uses continue to be a studio specialty. Large family groups can be accommodated in the large camera room, along with individual, couple and small groups, plus engagement, bridal, and children. Location photographic sessions are also provided for outdoor portrait sessions, weddings, anniversaries, and other events. Outdoor sessions for high school senior portraits are very popular. With the advances in digital imaging, the studio’s professional photography can be used for composite portraits, custom wedding album pages, and website and business applications. QualificationsDuring his years as a professional photographer, Jim Metz has been a member of and has been active within the Professional Photographers’ Society of New York and the Southern Tier Professional Photographers. Mr. Metz has been awarded achievement and speaking merits from the Professional Photographers’ of America.FutureThe future outlook of the studio looks dynamic as people appreciate its products and as the studio’s presence and location become known. It is predicted that employees will be added in 2005 as the studio meets the professional digital photography needs of area residents.
